RORIC TOBIN FOR GREENPORT VILLAGE TRUSTEE

Where I Stand

Roric Tobin is a resident of the West Dublin neighborhood of Greenport with his husband Justin and their two dogs Otis & Fifi. An Interior Designer and General Contractor, with a degree in Political Science and previous experience on the School Board of Ithaca, New York.

Called to action by his own frustrations and those of his countless neighbors, he is ready to bring a new direction to the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees needs transparency, consistency and vision.

+ Clarity & Transparency - As a Trustee you will know where I stand on issues and why. I do not believe in enacting legislation without saying why they are needed and what they aim to achieve. Proposing rules without explanation and sitting stone faced to the Community is not leadership.

+ A fully staffed Village - Citizens are not receiving the services their taxes pay for. A fully staffed Village Office needs to be a top priority.

+ Housing - We all know there is a lack of affordable housing in our Village and the larger community. There is no magic wand but doing nothing won't solve it. We need solutions both small and large.

+ Business Development - Obviously, we cannot allow development without oversight and maintaining our Village character. But instead of simply saying No, it should be "How can we make this work?" Commercial properties sitting vacant for years is not the solution.

+ Short Term Rentals - A sensible policy that is universally enforced. Cost of living and upkeep are expensive. Residents should be allowed to earn extra income from their properties from appropriate rentals while having strong enforcement and penalties for a few bad actors. Short term rentals of one and two family residences owned by outside corporations should not be allowed.

+ Quality of Life - We need to work with local outreach groups and law enforcement to address problems in the Village. Shifting the problem around the Village is not a solution.

+ Parking - The problem of parking within the Village is a source of frustration for residents and a massive missed opportunity for increased revenue.
